According to the "Saigon Liberation Daily" news, the Ministry of Agriculture of Vietnam revealed that in 2007 Vietnam's export aquatic products reached 3.75 billion US dollars, an increase of 12% year-on-year, and entered the ranks of the world's top ten aquatic products exporting countries.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture of Vietnam, the number of aquatic companies that have reached the European, American and Japanese market standards has doubled in the first year of WTO accession. In 2007, nearly 1,200 companies obtained aquatic product export licenses to markets such as the European Union, China, Canada and South Korea. Vietnam's aquatic products are sold to more than 130 countries and regions around the world, and the types of aquatic products exported are diversified. Except for frozen aquatic products and processed aquatic products, the proportion of shrimp products in total exports has dropped to 40%, and the proportion of other fish products is increasing.
In 2008, Vietnam raised its target of exporting 4.25 billion US dollars in aquatic products.
