French media seriously misrepresented reports angering Vietnamese catfish producers

On Monday, the Vietnam Aquatic Products Export and Export Association (VASEP) officially stated that the reports on French TV and the website were seriously inaccurate and made them feel very atmosphere. According to the report, Vietnamese carp species such as Pangassius or Panga, which are well-known in Europe, are infected with water pollution, antibiotics or hormones.

Two French televisions have made critical reports on the pangassius farming industry in Vietnam, and the reports were soon spread across French food and health websites. Vietnam Aquatic Export Association VASEP said that the French TV report and website jointly fabricated this food safety incident, the main purpose of which is to prevent Vietnamese aquatic products from entering the French market. Nguyen Huu Dung, president of the VASEP Association, said, ‘In order to win market share, many people will swear each other, and the website only reports the wrong view.

The European Environment and Food Safety Organization said that excessive attention to the safety of imported Pangassius squid may mislead the public. This phenomenon indicates that we need to make more efforts in the sustainable development of the aquatic industry, and these products can be safely consumed. Flavio Corsiin is a fishery consultant specializing in environmental protection organization WWF. He is dedicated to the research of the Vietnamese carp (Pangassius) industry. In an interview, he said: "I am an Italian. When I was in Italy, I would eat salmon because I knew where it came from, and it was very safe to know its processing and inspection process. The EU is importing products. Has a very good system to ensure its food safety."

In 2007, there were reports on two sets of TV channels in France, including the "Panga Legend" report. In the French six reports, there was also a discussion of "What is Panga?" They focused on the water pollution in the Mekong Delta, as the region is the key aquaculture area for salmon, and the term antibiotic is also mentioned in succession. When farming fish, the hormones extracted from the urine of pregnant women are used. To stimulate female salmon to lay eggs.

The report does not mention any data on the EU fishery water environment report. The use of these hormones only occurs in a very small number of farmers, in order to stimulate the increase in the number of female salmon. These things do not happen at all in the capture and export of fish products, and it is even less likely to appear in the salmon fillet market. Corsin said that when Vietnamese catfish have problems with export inspections in Europe, the fish harvested in Europe will encounter the same problem. Because antibiotics are no longer a problem.

Before 2003, Vietnam did not have any obvious measures to export squid to the EU. In 2007, Vietnam exported $3.75 billion worth of aquatic products, including 1.5 million tons of squid (Pangassius), half of which was exported to the European market.
