Tanzanian government explores potential for deep-sea fishing

Tanzania’s mainstream media Daily News reported on May 23 that on the 22nd, Deputy Minister of Animal Husbandry and Fisheries Development Abdullah Ulega attended the parliamentary meeting and said that with the recovery of the Tanzania Fisheries Corporation (TAFICO) Excavating the fishing potential in the Indian Ocean, the Tanzanian government is expected to receive billions of shillings of fiscal revenue each year from the deep-sea fishing industry. At the meeting, there were doubts that the Tanzanian government failed to make full use of the deep sea fishing potential of its 1,424-kilometer coastline and sovereign waters, while the Tan-Deep Sea Fisheries Administration (DSFA) imposed a 0.4% tax per kilometer for foreign vessels fishing in the Tanhai area. Since the policy, the Tanzanian government has lost 20 billion shillings (about 8.6 million US dollars) to 30 billion shillings (about 13 million US dollars) of fiscal revenue, so it is recommended that the government abolish this high tax policy by strengthening foreign countries. Regulation of fishing vessels and combating illegal fishing, increasing fiscal revenue. (Source: Business Office in Tanzania)
